Van Essen presents at the White House

On June 20, 2013, David Van Essen, Ph.D., Co-PI of the Human Connectome Project (HCP), was honored to be among 10 scientists invited to present at the White House in an poster session featuring projects that promote “open science”, a movement to make scientific research and data accessible to all.

HCP is a landmark project for open science. All data being collected from the 1,200 volunteer participants for the HCP are being made publically available online, which will allow neuroscientists, computational biologists, and others around the world to significantly contribute to the findings of the study.

Van Essen presented on the HCP in a poster session that capped off the Champions of Change for Open Science Event. Sponsored by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the Mozilla Science Lab, the event honored 13 individuals and organizations for their efforts to promote open scientific data and publications.
